Anthology horror that's loosely tied together by a shared setting is one of my favorite setups for shows, so I came to this one ready to fall in love.I've ended up with... conflicted feelings. It's amazingly well-made. The production and sound design are beautiful, and it's a pleasure to listen to. And some of the episodes are amazing-- interesting, and unsettling in the best ways. But I feel like some fall short of the mark.I particularly enjoyed Mr. Bag, and Antler Elk. Both felt like love letters to the art on which they were based, really focusing on creating intense sensory images through sound, with the focus less on telling a narrative, and more on evoking a response in the listener. This worked really well for me combined with the show's premise of episodes based on artwork.Other episodes, though, have the start of good ideas and either over-explain them, or get my buy-in but then don't follow through with a payoff. I loved Scissors until it... just kind of ended. There's a fine line between leaving a listener wanting just a bit more, and not given them enough to feel satisfied.I AM enjoying the show, and plan to keep listening to it. The episodes that nail it are fantastic, and even the ones that don't quite are enjoyable. I just really, really want ALL of them to land, because clearly the ideas and the talent are there!
