Theresa Ruth Howard is a ballet dancer, teacher, and advocate. She is also a contributing editor to Dance Magazine. She is the founder and curator of the Memoirs of Blacks in Ballet.Howard began her professional career at the age of twelve with the Philadelphia Civic Ballet Company. She danced with Dance Theatre of Harlem, and was a founding member of Armitage Gone! Dance. She has taught at the American Dance Festival, Sarah Lawrence College, and was an artist in residence at Hollins University.Howard's work has appeared in Pointe, the Source, and the Italian dance Magazine Expressions.

She received her undergraduate degree from Oberlin College in 1988 and her master's degree in poetry from New York University.
