This is excellent and I am thrilled Startup is closing the loop with the show by returning to its first season's subject - Gimlet itself. I am sad that Alex feels that people want more MFM and Dax Shepard - I don't necessarily dislike those, but podcast audiences need more authentic, indie, creative shows, not more shows with big names. The comment basically made the case for Luminary; that people will be willing to spend their time (and hopefully for Luminary, their money) to listen to content that Luminary deems "premium" because of who hosts it. (I guess the same could be said for Spotify (who bought Gimlet), but at least I'm not seeing them market their company or even their podcast arm as being so celeb-heavy and "exclusive.") I thought that Alex sounded defeated in this episode, like he gave up on his creative dream and on innovation.
